Ensuring a Safe and Healthy Work Environment

Dome considers accident prevention and safety to be one of our most important goals. We have implemented a comprehensive Injury and Illness Prevention Program (I.I.P.P.) that establishes safe work practices and enables us to work together to identify and eliminate unsafe or unhealthy conditions. The fundamental principles of our safety program are:

Proactive management leadership; our motto is always “Safety first.”

Oversight through a Corporate Safety Officer Individual accountability; “Safety starts with you.”

Extensive safety-related education is required of all employees, who are also encouraged to attend the OSHA 10-hour training program.

Safety pays; good safety practices are noted and rewarded.

A proven track record of safety and injury prevention

Our commitment to safety is reflected in our experience modification rate (EMR) which initially declined and has remained low each year since 2001 as a result of continuous improvement in workplace safety practices and policies. Our low EMR exceeds rigid standards set by our clients in selecting contractors and services firms.

2007 = .81
2006 = .79
2005 = .63
2004 = .61
2003 = .64
2002 = .74

Dome has been recognized by the Construction Employers’ Association (CEA) for excellence in safety and performance. The average industry rate for non-residential building construction incidents is 8.8 per 100 employees. Dome’s record of 4.5 puts us significantly ahead of comparable companies. To successfully compete for this award, firms must have an active safety-training program, starting with a verifiable Injury and Illness Prevention Program (IIPP).

Dome Construction has more than sixty 10-hour OSHA trained employees. We establish accountability and safety expectations for each project by implementing the use of Job Hazard Analysis for the scope of work and establishing site-specific safety controls. To date, OSHA has never cited Dome Construction for safety violations.
